Horzte vs. Daphne
Horzte, the tournament's organizer, has his first bout in the west ring, the one where Tufin defeated Remonstrance. Horzte faces Daphne, the teutonically-fortified warrior woman Perry collected money from earlier.
They're both using swords. Horzte's first swing is slapped aside by the spherical shieldmaiden, and she presses the advantage by whacking him on the head with her shield. His knees go rubbery and she closes with a leg sweep that has him on his back with a very loud THOMP! She lets loose a short, fierce scream as she drives her sword downward.
She stops abruptly, the sword tip a half inch from Horzte's adam's apple. He meekly croaks, "I give."
And that's it for that match, all in about five seconds. She rejoins her traveling companion, and Horzte is helped to his feet by the ref. A few of the locals in the crowd are saying stuff like "Better luck next go 'round, eh?"
Lunch Time!
Horzte walks feebly to the bandstand, and winces when the herald blows a horn for everybody's attention.
"Okay, it's twelve oclock. Time for lunch!" he announces. "For your entertainment, the Hotdamm Junior Equestrian Drill Team and Polo Squad!"
He goes and sits down as a half-dozen mounted youngsters ride into the jousting area. For the next several minutes, they do various coordinated maneuvers and stunts as a small band plays on the bandstand.
Many in the audience take the opportunity to line up at the beer tents and the food tent ("The Friendly Fire" -- it features fried chicken, fried potatoes, fried breaded vegetables of various sorts, fried dough, fried cheese, fried sausages, fried peppers ... the Gods of Cholesterol must be happy today.) Others head back to Penshah's or over to the nomad tents.

"Hollllllli!" Lysandra ducks, darts, shimies, slips and jostles almost unnoticed through the busy crowd until she gets to Holli's table and launches her self at the warrior woman.
She embraces Holli (as best she can around the armor) briefly then pulls away. "I haven't seen you in SOOOOOOOO long. It's really great to see you. How are you?"
Holli's a very buff-looking half-elf. She's in armor that looks cast from some pewter-like metal, rather than pounded from sheet metal. This armor covers her from nect to toe -- her helmet sits on the table -- and gives her a slightly insectoid appearance. The joints (elbow, knee, etc) work very smoothly and quietly. She has medium short blonde hair and is usually very cheerful. Like now.
"There you are!" she greets Lysandra, and then Perry.
"Hi Holli! Can we join you at your table?" Perry asks as he climbs onto a chair.
"I wan't you to meet some new friends, this one's name is Finleus," he says pointing out Phineas, "and this big green guy is called Jenny-red-neck," he continues pointing to Jenredykk, "even though he's green," he adds.
Phineas is a human, a bit scrawnier than most, and his shaggy hair and beard is echoed by his only clothing, a beat-up kilt sort of thing. He holds two bundles.
He bows when introduced to Holli. "Charmed. Actually, little Periwinkle here knows I'm called 'Phineas' and is having his fun. I see you found yourself a high-tech armorer, and quite a good one. Is it powered?"
Holli looks a but confused, then replies, "No, I don't think so. No magic about it, either."
Suddenly Perry remembers something and begins looking around frantically, "Say, Holli, you didn't show up here with Lamont did you?" he asks worried.
Holli replies, "No ... no ... Things happened. Sorry I missed you guys. Anyway, this is Matthias and Eledhan.
Phineas grabs some chairs to accommodate the newcomers. His first try is to get some from that old dwarf's table, but he's told they're "taken." (The old dwarf is one of the ones the little one ran to, after handing Jenredykk that note, a while back.)
[And since this means PCs are meeting each other for the first times, each of you should ingeniously insert descriptions of your guys into your narratives.]

Eledhan gives a dashing smile to the newcomers. He is very tall, with shoulder-length blond hair. He stands up and offers his chair to any female newcomers (Lysandra?). He is garbed in some very fine clothing, with a few muddy stains on them, and he carries in his hand an obsidian staff with some arcane sigils enscribed on it.
"So, Holli," he asks the ravishing young lady, "Is this some sort of reunion? Looks like you're quite popular around these parts...". His eyes flicker momentarily over her finely sculpted body, an expression of wicked pleasure on his exquisitely handsome face. His almost femine features light up with joy as she speaks his name.
"As for the rest of you, I suggest that you try the Chilli. It's really rather good, although I don't think it agrees with my stomach." his speech is punctuated by some loud rumbles from his stomach.

The girl actually stands taller than Perry, but he's about the only one and she doesn't beat him by much, at less than 5 feet. She is obviously human and even more obviously rather young. Other than the dark red leather jacket she wears, her clothing is rather plain cotton and wool. She sports a dagger at each hip and a short sword in a red scabbard that matches the jacket.
Lysandra's dark brown hair ends slightly beyond her shoulders as she flips it back from her eyes to take in the newcomers that Holli sits with. Her bright blue eyes twinkles as she extends her hand to each of them in turn and introduces her self. Her movements are light and smooth, much more so than you would expect from someone at her usually awkward age.
Lysandra does giggle characteristically when offered a chair by Eledhan. "Thank you kind sir." The shyness dissipates when she notes the staff however. "Are a wizard?" She asks in excited tones.

The half-elf nods her head at Agnar, her long, fiery red braids swinging slightly, with whisps of hair sweak-soaked and clinging to her face. Her bright emerald eyes move almost like the small hawk's perched on her padded shoulder - scanning frequently or focusing completely. Her garb is drabber than her coloring, dyed leather tunic, pants and high boots of varying shades of green... good forest camouflage. A leather thong rings her neck and falls under the tunic, only a small bulge discernable. Often she also wears a dark green cloak, but not today, what with the match and the weather. In her right hand she grips a rune-carven ash staff. At her left side, on the braided leather belt is her hawking glove and hood, a pouch and a sheathed dagger . She's rather short (5 ft), but slim and athletic looking. This tends to enhance her youthful appearance of 20ish, although she is much, much older.
As the youths jostle up behind them, she expresses her thanks for their compliments, smiling at the byplay. Turning back to Agnar, "I'm Mistletoe by the way,the hawk is my companion Ashfelor, and this is my friend and fellow ranger, Nivek."

>The ravenous druid wants some chicken, sausages, potatoes, and veggies....
They're all to be had. Each bit of fried food comes in a cone-shaped paper holder, and the oil quickly soaks through it.
>"Any ale to wash this down with??"
Also available -- for customers who don't have mugs handy, glass mugs are included in the price (relatively cheap).
It's at about this time that the enthusuatic customer might notice that there are no tables nearby. Over behind the registration desk, the tables have already filled up. There is some space on the bleachers that might serve, and they afford a great view of the precision horse antics. (Right now, the riders are standing on their steeds and making balloon animals as the horses go in circles.)
Or Mistletoe and crew could eat standing up -- a messy process requiring DEX, but it's what a lot of the crowd are doing. (Hmmm.. I wonder if the planners of the Tournament had factored the possibility of hundreds of minor grease spills onto the glass ...)

He instructs the first counterperson to charge half price.

In Penshah's Poolside Room, Lysandra, Matthias, Perry, Eledhan, Jenredykk, Phineas and Holli have been eating lunch and talking. More food comes, served by the young half-dwarf.
Suzzi comes back into the room and hurries through the crowd to the table, looking agitated. She says to Holli, "I don't know where Horzte is, and this is strange."
She looks over at the nearby table where the elderly, rich-looking dwarf is already looking back with a very worried expression on his face.
"Mr. Glenxo? You know Holli. These are some of her friends. Anyway, you were right, I think."
Mr. Glenxo gets out of his chair and comes over to the table. He looks troubled and forlorn, and he looks as if these are not emotions he is used to. "You didn't find them?"
Suzzi replies, "No, I didn't. And what's odder is I found an open doorway where one isn't supposed to be, right behind --"
"-- the main bath tub," Holli completes. Suzzi and Mr. Glenxo glare at her.
Suzzi starts, "Maybe I should get Horzte or the Watch --"
"-- No, no. Please." It's the dwarf who interrupts her this time.
"I mean, I don't want this to get out, for a lot of reasons ... Like the Tournament, and this church auditor who's in town, and ... well, I just don't."
Holli is trying to extract something from inside the sleeve of her armor. Finally, using her pinky, she's able to coax out a folded-up bit of paper.
As she's doing this, she asks quietly, "And who is it that's vanished into this doorway?"
"My wife and little Tursbie," Mr. Glenxo says, "That's my daughter," he explains to the others at the table. "She likes to dress up like a thief, no offense meant, in black leather and such. She's got blue eyes, and she's all of this high." He holds his hand two feet above the floor.
Holli gets the paper unfolded. It's a piece cut from a printed map, with additions drawn in red and black ink. She shows it to Mr. Glenxo.
"Do you think they'd want to head to any of these places?" she asks.
"Oh, my wife would never let her run off -- we would have heard the yelling from up here -- she has that sort of voice. You didn't hear my wife yelling, did you?"
Suzzi shakes her head no.
He continues, "And down here heads to the old temple."
Holli asks, "You mean the 't' in that loop?"
"No, I don't know what that is. The temple's off the bottom left corner of this. But nobody'd want to go there. The way in has locks with magic time limits. Spend a minute too long fiddling with them, and traps go off. But what am I saying? My wife wouldn't let our child go into these tunnels in the first place."
He scans the faces at the table. (If there were background music, it would well up at this point.)
He announces, "It can only mean foul play!"

The Short Bar, the common room in Penshah's that is sized for dwarves, is still crowded. Tufin has been sitting and drinking with the human visitors from Vergaantz, Vendetta Alnmoor and her kinsman Remonstrance. (Earlier in the day, Tufin had defeated Remonstrance handily.)
Tufin has just asked Vendetta if she was going to compete in the tourney, but she's suddenly paying attention to Horzte, the Tournament coordinator, who has entered the room.
From what many in the crowd are saying, Horzte has just been defeated in single combat by a woman, in less time than it takes to describe it. The normally temperate fellow is having a few drinks on this side, to allow him to better brave the razzing he'll be getting when he returns to Penshah's OTHER public room.
"Another, Sammi," he instructs the bartender.
Vendetta speaks up, from where she's sitting.
"Back home, tourneymeisters often excuse themselves from the competitions, to avoid exactly this sort of situation," she announces.
The crowd hushes significantly.
Horzte turns slowly. He nods when he notices Remonstrance sitting with her, but he nearly drops his mug when he spots Tufin at the same table.
After a pause, he asks Vendetta carefully, "Can I be assured that your intentions are peaceable, within this house?"
"Within this house, yes," she replies.

Following Lysandra is no problem for the trio.
What they do with their food is up to them -- perhaps they stuff it into a pouch, which results in something perfectly disgusting when Nivek's and Mistletoe's fried food cools down and congeals. They can probably manage the whole walk to Penshah's and to the table without spilling a whole lot.
As they enter Penshah's, Agnar might notice that Tufin's at the bar, looking at a piece of paper. Then Agnar's hustled on, to a table at the far side of the room.
As a person experienced in the ways of metal, Agnar will see that Holli's armor is unusual in the extreme. It's full-body armor that looks cast, rather than hammered. The joints at the elbows, knees and other places move very smoothly, though it gives her an ant-like appearance. She's not wearing the helmet or gloves at the moment.
Also, if the armor is any indication, she's very broad-shouldered for a half-elf.

At the window table in the Poolside Room at Penshah's are Holli, Phineas, Mr. Glenxo, Jenredykk and Perry.
Holli's the buff half-elf in the odd armor. Phineas is the knobby, mangy-kilted human who Mistletoe defeated a few minutes ago. He's now also wearing spectacles, (but I think Mistletoe may have already known about them from the dents on the sides of his nose.) Mr. Glenxo is a rich-looking dwarf wearing symbols of Moradin, though the short sword at his side implies he's not a cleric.
When Mistletoe and Nivek return with Lysandra, Holli says, "There you are! Sorry about last night -- I'll try to explain later."
If/when Agnar arrives, Phineas greets him with, "So there you are. I'd wondered where you went. You didn't get to see me get stomped by this little lady, here." He nods to Mistletoe.
If/when Matthias and Eledhan return (and after various people get slapped by Matthias' loose sword), everybody who saw them before can see that Matthias has solidified a bit, something native Zammers recognize as going up in levels. Matthias has skipped a couple.
[So, any of you guys who haven't met any other of you guys, it's time for some more introductions.]

Seeing Agnar very uncomfortable in his armor takes Tufin back to his first days of trainig with his armor ... a nostalgic smile on his face he approaches the panting dwarf. "Well met Agnar, I see you have aquired some new armor. Nice", he nods appreciatively, "very nice!" There is sincerity in his tone, but also humor evident.
In a quieter voice he adds, "It will take some getting used to I think. You may want to think twice about using it tomorrow, but I'd be honored to help you learn it's use if you like."
He raises his voice back to a more normal level, "Our match is set for", e looks at the fellow by the register, "just after dawn tomorrow."

The girl doesn't seem at all out of breath despite the bright red leather jacket she wears. Absently, Lysandra pushes stray brown hairs back from her face as she takes in the happenings around her. The gnome stands on his chair, so as not to be unnoticed and sheepishly addresses Holli.
"Um, I wasn't paying attention when the reward money was discussed, how much did you say it was?"
For those who notice Perry for the first time, he is dressed in bright colors faded with age and muted by dirt and stains. His striped pants and clashing leather jerkin would clearly be painful to view in this combination if they were as bright today as they were when they were new.
Much of the gnome's face is hidden by a large brimmed hat with bright, red, fuzzy balls dangling off the end. The hat is nearly as wide as Perry is tall, and was clearly meant to be worn by a human - perhaps in a circus. Perry has modified the hat with 2 eye holes above the brim so he can see out of it while it rests on his pudgy nose. The hat is made of straw and has weathered badly. The brim looks especially worn as if it serves mostly as a bumper. Overall it has several dents and tears.
The entire outfit gives the gnome an air of gaudy mystery.

In Penshah's at the windowside table, Holli has been getting ready to go after Mr. Glenxo's missing wife and daughter. (Mr. Glenxo is that extremely troubled-but-rich-looking, elderly dwarf wearing various hunks of gold and silver that identify him as ranking highly the Church of Moradin. He's also wearing a sword, so he's not a cleric.)
Eledhan and Matthias have returned from the Temple of Eris, where Matthias had a conveniently speedy revelation from the goddess. Glenxo seems even more upset when he sees Matthias.
Jenredykk asks Glenxo, "What's the problem with him being a cleric?"
"It's who he's a cleric for," mutters the distraught father. "Chaotic with a capital 'K', as they say ..."
Nivek and Mistletoe have also been fetched by Lysandra, with Agnar tagging along.
"Nivek, good to see you," says Holli. "This is Mr. Glenxo, and his daughter and wife have just gone missing. I was hoping you might help track them. I think they've gone into the sewers and tunnels below the town."
Eledhan asks, "Yes, my dear, I have a question which I feel might be shared by several of our group. Will there be monsters, and does anyone know a good life-insurance broker?"
Holli says, "Monsters, sure, if you don't scare them away with that insurance broker talk."
Perry asks Holli, "Um, I wasn't paying attention when the reward money was discussed, how much did you say it was?"
Holli rolls her eyes and goes back to showing Nivek the map.
Phineas nudges the gnome and says. "Look at his outfit. I may be nearly naked now, but I know expensive jewelry when I see it. PLUS, he seems to be a high mucky-muck in a church that specializes in gold."
Agnar has hung back a little, to exchange a few comments with Tufin, who's been at the bar to look at the Tournament schedule of matches. Then Agnar heads for the table, probably with Tufin behind him.
[OOC: At this point, we've almost gotten to a very convenient point for any GM: all the players in the same place at the same time. It would make things so easy to handle! Unfortunately, Mr. Glenxo refuses to cooperate.]
The harried-looking dwarf looks up from the table and spots Tufin heading his way.
"Oh, not now!" he mutters, then turns back to the table.
"Holli, you guys better get going. I have even more trouble coming."
"Huh?" Holli huhs.
"Church business. "
That's enough for Holli. She's up and trying to herd the party toward the door to the hallway and downstairs, leaving Glenxo to stand and face Tufin across several feet of public room floor.
The old dwarf clears his throat and addresses Tufin in a voice that carries through the room.
"All right, all right. So you've got around to me. What is it you WANT?"

Tufin looks a bit startled by this sudden intrusion into his thoughts. He considers the man's accusation for a moment before responding. "A seat at His table when I finally die would be nice." There is a definate twinkle in his eye as he says that, but he quickly sobers as he considers the task at hand. "But as I hope that is sone number of years away, I thought I might go with my friend there. Seems something has come up." He is thoughtful for a moment before he looks up and focuses his full attention on the dwarf before him, "Unless you think there is some church business that we should attend to right now."

He leans in a bit closer and pulls down a second finger, "Two, I have not been here long enough to spread any gossip, so be sure of your facts before you go about accusing.". Another finger, "Third, the only person that I have seen spreading gossip is standing before me." Another, "other than a visit to the old temple for a bit of prayer, I have no authorization, plans or intent for the temple."

[And while we're doing AD&D mechanics, here's my first draft of a marching order. Alert us to any changes you might want to make. ]
[Marching order: Nivek, Mistletoe, Eledhan (w/light), Holli, Jenredykk, Perry, Lysandra, Phineas, Agnar and Matthias (sent back there by Holli, probably due to his getting fresh.)]
The passage between the baths and the sewer is a tube of glass. Street level is about fifteen feet above the party's heads, and some sounds filter through.
There's no immediate sign Nivek or the others can detect that acts as proof little Tursbie passed through this way. There's no dust and no odor. A small sign on the wall of the tube says, "Deodorant / Cleaning spell by Twango, Clan le Froon. Please do not dispel. Recharge needed, November 15, 3600"
On the other end of this passageway is another door. This one is also open, but even closed, it's obvious. On the other side of the door, a padlock hangs open, and there's a sign on the door saying, "Penshah's 4" on it, for the convenience of any sewer strolling folk.
The deodorant spell's range doesn't extend beyond the door, so that's where any doubts about this being a sewer are dispelled.
Okay, there are worse sewers to have to go through. Being in the middle of a desert makes water management a well-paid occupation. And since the walls are glass (melted through the trapped desert sands), there isn't much freelance seepage.
So: A cross-section of the tunnel would look like a half-circle of twenty five feet in diameter, sitting on the flat side. The sewage itself goes down an eight foot wide channel in the middle, and the level of the top of the muck is about two feet below the walkways on each side. (In case somebody falls in at some point, the muck level is three feet deep, and the channel is lined by a druid/magical non-stick coating. So don't fall in, or you'll have trouble standing up or climbing out.)
On the outer edges of the tunnel are pipes, evidently of fresh water.
This means that there's generally six feet wide to walk dryly, on either side of the sewage channel. Here and there are small footbridges across the flow. There are pipes here and there, and most of the stuff heading into the sewer is through piping under the party's feet.
The drawn path on the map turns left (east) when it hits this tunnel. To the right (west), a few dozen feet away, there's a glow and a whirring sound.
"Don't worry about that," says Holli. "That's the filtering system."
Indeed, on the wall next to the glow, there's an official-looking sign: "HOTDAMM MUNICIPAL WATER PURIFICATION VORTEX. DO NOT DISPEL!!"
But it's the other direction the party intends to go.

Agnar is not happy about being in the back, but he is the new guy, so what can you do? Anyway, he'll jump up and down ocassionally, trying to see what's up ahead, or just look around at the marvels of the stone and glass construction (absolutely metal-free!). Along the way, Agnar will be using his dwarven abilities to try to detect pitfalls, weak spots in the construction or other dangers to the group.
"Is anybody here a tracker?" he asks.

"I believe Holli -- that's the armored woman -- said that the young man up front is one," says Phineas. He's taken his wire rim glasses (he was wearing them at the table) off and stowed them in one of his bundles.

After first letting his eyes adjust to the light, Nivek looks around at this highly unusual sewage system. With the others streamning in behind him, he looks to Mistletoe behind him and smiles. He then sets upon the task at hand.
He isn't particularily worried about traps, its after all a sewer, so he concentrates on looking for signs of the boy's passage.
There may not be footprints, but he has learned to look for other tell tale signs. These are the ones he searches for carefully. (torn clothing, out of place objects ...)

[Eledhan] ooc: spells - Dancing Lights/Unseen Servant. Could you also send me back a list of the spells I have please? The list I have has only 3 spells on it (odd or what?).
Turning a shade of green so bright that it would seem he were attempting forest camouflage, Eledhan makes verbose complaints about the awful smell before realising that this could alert any bloodthirsty, rabid monsters in the area - he promptly shuts up. He stalks silently behind Nivek and Mistletoe, being rather selfish with the light; he's more worried about him falling into the sewage than he is about the footing of others. Still, he directs it enough that the people in front can see what they're doing (and maybe the people at the back, if they're nice about it <s>).
He'll follow without comment unless anything untoward should happen, in which case he'll direct all blame to Nivek (without malice - more for just someone to shout at) and encourage others to do likewise.

Gagging just slightly, Lysandra recovers quickly as they enter the main tunnel of the sewer. As they walk, she takes it in with her very curious eyes. "This is a *really* nice sewer. I've seen some sewers in my day and this has got to be the nicest."

"Yes," agrees Eledhan in a tone so dry it could cause instant desertification, "It's so nice to see that the builders made an effort to make it more pleasant. I must spend time down here more often.". The sentences come out in one long, drawn-out breath - you can tell he doesn't want to breathe in any more than is necessary.

It's hard to stifle the laugh, but she manages. 'This must be very unpleasent for Eledhan.', she thinks. 'He's probably never seen a sewer before.'
Lysandra says softly, with resrtaint. "I didn't say it was a picnic in the woods. It could be indescribably worse, though. A simple example, no walkway." She leaves it hanging there for him to think on for a time.

Amazing is all he can think of this marvel of a sewage system. Its cleanliness certainly makes tracking all the tougher.
He walks a bit one way, then switches direction moving away from the Purification vortex. he bends down low and asks for Eledhan's light to see better. With the light he moves a little further down the way and stops again. he swipes the floor with a finger and stops to smell it, probably getting some reaction from those behind him. To Mistletoe, he simply says "Perfume", anyone close would hear him.
"This way, looks like boot scuffs, dwarven would be my guess. And they're pretty recent too", he whispers back. "They've been this way maybe within the last 10 minutes or so. And I'm pretty sure its them. I think Tursbie left us a clue. I think they went through this door", he adds pointing to the one ahead of them.

Following closely behind Nivek, staff in hand, she scans for any signs also. At his mention of perfume, she nods. "Must be the woman then. You'd think there would be signs of a scuffle or something, especially with a child along that *doesn't* want to go... Assuming that's the case of course." The druid makes sure she's ready to detect magic and/or detect snares if anything should seem to warrant it.

The goblin walks along openmouthed, not minding the smell at all. His gaze darts here, then there then over there. He stops when he believes he has spotted something interesting in the muck, causing Perry to bump into him, but the gnome's enormous hat cushions the impact.

The party's on the northern side of the sewage stream, facing east, so the stream is to your right. [I think that's where I slipped up in the description before.]
Nivek leads the party eastward, toward an intersection where the tunnel splits into a branch heading east/southeast and one heading north. There's a small bridge over the northern branch, then one over the eastern branch.
From the sound of it, you're getting closer to being under the Tournament, which is resuming after its lunch break. (The eastern stream is getting larger.)
