Horzte vs. Daphne

Horzte, the tournament's organizer, has his first bout in the west ring, the one where Tufin defeated Remonstrance. Horzte faces Daphne, the teutonically-fortified warrior woman Perry collected money from earlier.

They're both using swords. Horzte's first swing is slapped aside by the spherical shieldmaiden, and she presses the advantage by whacking him on the head with her shield. His knees go rubbery and she closes with a leg sweep that has him on his back with a very loud THOMP! She lets loose a short, fierce scream as she drives her sword downward.

She stops abruptly, the sword tip a half inch from Horzte's adam's apple. He meekly croaks, "I give."

And that's it for that match, all in about five seconds. She rejoins her traveling companion, and Horzte is helped to his feet by the ref. A few of the locals in the crowd are saying stuff like "Better luck next go 'round, eh?"

Lunch Time!

Horzte walks feebly to the bandstand, and winces when the herald blows a horn for everybody's attention.

"Okay, it's twelve oclock. Time for lunch!" he announces. "For your entertainment, the Hotdamm Junior Equestrian Drill Team and Polo Squad!"

He goes and sits down as a half-dozen mounted youngsters ride into the jousting area. For the next several minutes, they do various coordinated maneuvers and stunts as a small band plays on the bandstand.

Many in the audience take the opportunity to line up at the beer tents and the food tent ("The Friendly Fire" -- it features fried chicken, fried potatoes, fried breaded vegetables of various sorts, fried dough, fried cheese, fried sausages, fried peppers ... the Gods of Cholesterol must be happy today.) Others head back to Penshah's or over to the nomad tents.

"Hollllllli!" Lysandra ducks, darts, shimies, slips and jostles almost unnoticed through the busy crowd until she gets to Holli's table and launches her self at the warrior woman.

She embraces Holli (as best she can around the armor) briefly then pulls away. "I haven't seen you in SOOOOOOOO long. It's really great to see you. How are you?"

Holli's a very buff-looking half-elf. She's in armor that looks cast from some pewter-like metal, rather than pounded from sheet metal. This armor covers her from nect to toe -- her helmet sits on the table -- and gives her a slightly insectoid appearance. The joints (elbow, knee, etc) work very smoothly and quietly. She has medium short blonde hair and is usually very cheerful. Like now.

"There you are!" she greets Lysandra, and then Perry.

"Hi Holli! Can we join you at your table?" Perry asks as he climbs onto a chair.

"I wan't you to meet some new friends, this one's name is Finleus," he says pointing out Phineas, "and this big green guy is called Jenny-red-neck," he continues pointing to Jenredykk, "even though he's green," he adds.

Phineas is a human, a bit scrawnier than most, and his shaggy hair and beard is echoed by his only clothing, a beat-up kilt sort of thing. He holds two bundles.

He bows when introduced to Holli. "Charmed. Actually, little Periwinkle here knows I'm called 'Phineas' and is having his fun. I see you found yourself a high-tech armorer, and quite a good one. Is it powered?"

Holli looks a but confused, then replies, "No, I don't think so. No magic about it, either."

Suddenly Perry remembers something and begins looking around frantically, "Say, Holli, you didn't show up here with Lamont did you?" he asks worried.

Holli replies, "No ... no ... Things happened. Sorry I missed you guys. Anyway, this is Matthias and Eledhan.

Phineas grabs some chairs to accommodate the newcomers. His first try is to get some from that old dwarf's table, but he's told they're "taken." (The old dwarf is one of the ones the little one ran to, after handing Jenredykk that note, a while back.)

[And since this means PCs are meeting each other for the first times, each of you should ingeniously insert descriptions of your guys into your narratives.]

This place is quite nice, all the dwarfs almost make him feel as big as the gnome is describing him to me. But he just can't get his name right. "That's Jenredykk, Jenredykk Glonnit," he corrects.

"Nice to meet you all, you can call me Dykk if it's easier." He will walk over to the bar and check out the menu if he can't find an empty chair.

[Eledhan]

Eledhan gives a dashing smile to the newcomers. He is very tall, with shoulder-length blond hair. He stands up and offers his chair to any female newcomers (Lysandra?). He is garbed in some very fine clothing, with a few muddy stains on them, and he carries in his hand an obsidian staff with some arcane sigils enscribed on it.

"So, Holli," he asks the ravishing young lady, "Is this some sort of reunion? Looks like you're quite popular around these parts...". His eyes flicker momentarily over her finely sculpted body, an expression of wicked pleasure on his exquisitely handsome face. His almost femine features light up with joy as she speaks his name.

"As for the rest of you, I suggest that you try the Chilli. It's really rather good, although I don't think it agrees with my stomach." his speech is punctuated by some loud rumbles from his stomach.

<Lysandra>

The girl actually stands taller than Perry, but he's about the only one and she doesn't beat him by much, at less than 5 feet. She is obviously human and even more obviously rather young. Other than the dark red leather jacket she wears, her clothing is rather plain cotton and wool. She sports a dagger at each hip and a short sword in a red scabbard that matches the jacket.

Lysandra's dark brown hair ends slightly beyond her shoulders as she flips it back from her eyes to take in the newcomers that Holli sits with. Her bright blue eyes twinkles as she extends her hand to each of them in turn and introduces her self. Her movements are light and smooth, much more so than you would expect from someone at her usually awkward age.

Lysandra does giggle characteristically when offered a chair by Eledhan. "Thank you kind sir." The shyness dissipates when she notes the staff however. "Are a wizard?" She asks in excited tones.

"Why yes, my dear," the handsome elf whispers in her ear, "I am indeed a scholar of the arts of magic. Allow me to introduce myself. Phineas has gathered enough chairs. He sits down, nodding at all the introductions and busying himself with one of his bundles -- the one that doesn't contain the club.

He produces a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and puts them on.

"Ah. That's better. So, where'd Perry go? Oh, there you are. Now, if we could only get a waitress over here ..."

But it's busy right now, so a waitress isn't immediately handy.

Nivek and Mistletoe have just wandered past Syd the armorer's booth on the way to lunch, somewhere. (Options include the fried foods place, nearby, and Penshah's.)

Mistletoe says, "Hey, Nivek. Did you see that armor shift slightly, or am I just hallucinating?"

Shaking himself out of his reverie slightly he takes the girl's hand politely and smiles broadly, meeting her gaze for a moment with his own green eyes before looking away again and putting his hand on his knee. A tall, lithely muscular man, Matthias looks oddly withdrawn for someone who looks like he should be naturally confident....reasonably handsome, he doesn't look like the shy type, and yet he doesn't say much, his only movement being a quick brush through his raven-black hair with his hand.

The dwarf wearing that "shifty" armor wanders towards the pair.

"Excuse me," he said innocently to Mistletoe. "I am new in town. Do you know a good place I might get something to eat?"

Although Agnar cuts an impressive figure in his new armor, his eyes are wild and peircing, as is his hair, which looks like it has been sandblasted into abstract art.

The flattery of Mage Eledhan causes the girl to giggle still more. But not much, she pulls it under control with visible effort. Straightening in her chair, Lysandra smiles and nods her head toward Eledhan. "Think you sir, you are very kind."

Her mood shifts back into the less formal and her smile brightens. "I knew a wizard back home. He knew all kinds of neat tricks." Her smile fades at some memory of that time. "He botched his end of a job, though. I never saw him after that. I guess he was too embarassed to come by the hang out after that."

She shakes herself out of that old reverie and returns her attention to the present.

As they get in line at the Friendly Fire's Fried Foods (it's right here) and are trying to introduce themselves to each other, Mistletoe, Agnar and Nivek find themselves behind a tall man trying to impress his date by going on and on about somebody called "Marsh elMac Loon" or something like that. Even the uninitiated listener would be tempted to tell this guy he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Happily, at least in terms of their mood, the two guys who get in line behind our heroes are locals, and they start by saying to Mistletoe, "Hey, you're the one who beat that caveman dude! Kudos!"

"Yah. I was totally scared for you," says the other one, "Like when he hollered in that dark, ancient tongue and all that? But you pulled it through. Excellent!"

His partner-in-line turns back to him. "Not like Horzte, with that horned lady. Did you see that? I bet he was glad Holli wasn't around to catch it."

"Like, au contrare! Holli was at the edge of the crowd, just in time to see Horzte lose most heinously."

"Bummer for Horzte."

"Bummer indeed."

They shake their heads sagaciously.

The half-elf nods her head at Agnar, her long, fiery red braids swinging slightly, with whisps of hair sweak-soaked and clinging to her face. Her bright emerald eyes move almost like the small hawk's perched on her padded shoulder - scanning frequently or focusing completely. Her garb is drabber than her coloring, dyed leather tunic, pants and high boots of varying shades of green... good forest camouflage. A leather thong rings her neck and falls under the tunic, only a small bulge discernable. Often she also wears a dark green cloak, but not today, what with the match and the weather. In her right hand she grips a rune-carven ash staff. At her left side, on the braided leather belt is her hawking glove and hood, a pouch and a sheathed dagger . She's rather short (5 ft), but slim and athletic looking. This tends to enhance her youthful appearance of 20ish, although she is much, much older.

As the youths jostle up behind them, she expresses her thanks for their compliments, smiling at the byplay. Turning back to Agnar, "I'm Mistletoe by the way,the hawk is my companion Ashfelor, and this is my friend and fellow ranger, Nivek."

It then sinks in that they mentioned Holli....But will have to wait until she's gotten something to eat.

She shakes her head at the mage's comment. "I don't know about that. I never knew anybody that was rich. We always seemed to need to run a job for one reason or another. The riches never piled up."

She looks around at her surroundings and the people here for a long moment. "That's why I'm here." She finally says. "To find some riches but mostly for the adventure and the new scenery. I'd never been out of my city before this."

"I think it's an odd way to kill a dragon, anyway. You've got all these warriors here. Why not just send them all out after the dragon? Whoever survives can keep the spoils."

Agnar shook his head.

"Metal-addled humans," he mutters. "Who knows how they think?"

The Agnar realizes he might have said something insulting.

"No offense," he said to his companions. "Um... let's go get some lunch."

Agnar, Mistletoe and Nivek find themselves at the front of the line, so it's their turn to order.

The food here is almost all breaded and deep fried (in metal baskets lowered into metal cauldrons of hot oil). (fried chicken, fried potatoes, fried breaded vegetables of various sorts (mushrooms, brocolli, asparagus, corn on the cob), fried dough, fried cheese, fried sausages, fried peppers ...)

It's staffed by enthusiastic and efficient young people, and it's quite clean.

A young human grins, holds his clipboard and pencil at the ready and addresses Agnar.

"Welcome to the Friendly Fire Fried Foods! How may we help you today?"

>The ravenous druid wants some chicken, sausages, potatoes, and veggies....

They're all to be had. Each bit of fried food comes in a cone-shaped paper holder, and the oil quickly soaks through it.

>"Any ale to wash this down with??"

Also available -- for customers who don't have mugs handy, glass mugs are included in the price (relatively cheap).

It's at about this time that the enthusuatic customer might notice that there are no tables nearby. Over behind the registration desk, the tables have already filled up. There is some space on the bleachers that might serve, and they afford a great view of the precision horse antics. (Right now, the riders are standing on their steeds and making balloon animals as the horses go in circles.)

Or Mistletoe and crew could eat standing up -- a messy process requiring DEX, but it's what a lot of the crowd are doing. (Hmmm.. I wonder if the planners of the Tournament had factored the possibility of hundreds of minor grease spills onto the glass ...)

He instructs the first counterperson to charge half price.

Soon, Agnar has a large paper cone full of the raw veggies he asked for (plus a glass mug of water, beer, ale or non-hard cider if he wishes.)

The counterperson oohs and aahs when paid by jewels.

In Penshah's Poolside Room, Lysandra, Matthias, Perry, Eledhan, Jenredykk, Phineas and Holli have been eating lunch and talking. More food comes, served by the young half-dwarf.

Suzzi comes back into the room and hurries through the crowd to the table, looking agitated. She says to Holli, "I don't know where Horzte is, and this is strange."

She looks over at the nearby table where the elderly, rich-looking dwarf is already looking back with a very worried expression on his face.

"Mr. Glenxo? You know Holli. These are some of her friends. Anyway, you were right, I think."

Mr. Glenxo gets out of his chair and comes over to the table. He looks troubled and forlorn, and he looks as if these are not emotions he is used to. "You didn't find them?"

Suzzi replies, "No, I didn't. And what's odder is I found an open doorway where one isn't supposed to be, right behind --"

"-- the main bath tub," Holli completes. Suzzi and Mr. Glenxo glare at her.

Suzzi starts, "Maybe I should get Horzte or the Watch --"

"-- No, no. Please." It's the dwarf who interrupts her this time.

"I mean, I don't want this to get out, for a lot of reasons ... Like the Tournament, and this church auditor who's in town, and ... well, I just don't."

Holli is trying to extract something from inside the sleeve of her armor. Finally, using her pinky, she's able to coax out a folded-up bit of paper.

As she's doing this, she asks quietly, "And who is it that's vanished into this doorway?"

"My wife and little Tursbie," Mr. Glenxo says, "That's my daughter," he explains to the others at the table. "She likes to dress up like a thief, no offense meant, in black leather and such. She's got blue eyes, and she's all of this high." He holds his hand two feet above the floor.

Holli gets the paper unfolded. It's a piece cut from a printed map, with additions drawn in red and black ink. She shows it to Mr. Glenxo.

"Do you think they'd want to head to any of these places?" she asks.

"Oh, my wife would never let her run off -- we would have heard the yelling from up here -- she has that sort of voice. You didn't hear my wife yelling, did you?"

Suzzi shakes her head no.

He continues, "And down here heads to the old temple."

Holli asks, "You mean the 't' in that loop?"

"No, I don't know what that is. The temple's off the bottom left corner of this. But nobody'd want to go there. The way in has locks with magic time limits. Spend a minute too long fiddling with them, and traps go off. But what am I saying? My wife wouldn't let our child go into these tunnels in the first place."

He scans the faces at the table. (If there were background music, it would well up at this point.)

He announces, "It can only mean foul play!"

(Dunt dunt Duuuuhn!)

ooc: Could I have a physical description of Lysandra?

Agnar is a dwarf of average dwarven height, weiring unusual green bullette scale armor and carrying a wooden staff. He has a belt pouch or two and wears a holy symbol made of wood as well as a wooden shield. His eyes are grey, and wild almost fervently insane/ His beard and hair are ragged, as if they had been sandblasted constantly fo the past few years (which they have). Nevertheless, he does not seem like a complete idiot (although looks can be deceiving) and has a wise sernity about him. He is currently holding a cone of uncooked vegetables. <<<"You mean you wish to pay for lunch, after all? Our deal was you'd tell ME what you saw when I was fighting that young lady.">>>

"Oh yeah," remembers the gnome, "Well I didn't see the fight from the beginning because I was doing something else, but when I got enough money together, I decided I would bet it all on Mistletoe -- she's the lady you were fighting.

I knew she was going to win because you were going so slow, so it was a pretty safe bet. Only problem was, she was already winning by the time I got to the dwarf-betting-guy, so I thought of a plan to distract her so you could act all menacing and growl a few more times to make everyone *think* that you were going to win and the dwarf-betting-guy would change the odds again, which really pissed off Nivek, but he shouldn't have been listening anyway. Then all of a sudden, WHAM! -- it was all over. You fell face first in the dirt and I didn't get any richer."

Perry takes a drink of mead before becoming distracted by Suzi and Holli's conversation about the missing dwarves.

He looks up from his musing to see Elehdan striding away from the table and other people going their seperate ways. He _really_ has to snap out of it. <Lysandra>

A young human girl of small stature, she stands less than 5 feet tall (approx 125cm) but moves with obvious grace. She barrels through the crowd, her shoulder length straight brown hair flying, but barely jostles a single person. Obviously she's accustomed to slipping through crowds unnoticed.

"Nivek! Nivek, Mistletoe! We need your help right away!" She begins hollering when she has them in site. Though she shows no sighs of slowing, to her credit, she doesn't run anyone over with her arrival. "There's a friend of Holli's at Pensha's. A Dwarf. . ." She huffs her way through far more explaination and detail than required before finally, and rapidly, finishing with ". . . and anyway, now his daughter and wife are missing!"

It's a good thing his sword's in its hilt, as it waves wildly in his wake.

Cries of "Hey!" "Ow!" "Watch it, bub!" follow him until he finally gets outside. Happily, nobody's hurt. Even more happily, nobody comes after him.

The Short Bar, the common room in Penshah's that is sized for dwarves, is still crowded. Tufin has been sitting and drinking with the human visitors from Vergaantz, Vendetta Alnmoor and her kinsman Remonstrance. (Earlier in the day, Tufin had defeated Remonstrance handily.)

Tufin has just asked Vendetta if she was going to compete in the tourney, but she's suddenly paying attention to Horzte, the Tournament coordinator, who has entered the room.

From what many in the crowd are saying, Horzte has just been defeated in single combat by a woman, in less time than it takes to describe it. The normally temperate fellow is having a few drinks on this side, to allow him to better brave the razzing he'll be getting when he returns to Penshah's OTHER public room.

"Another, Sammi," he instructs the bartender.

Vendetta speaks up, from where she's sitting.

"Back home, tourneymeisters often excuse themselves from the competitions, to avoid exactly this sort of situation," she announces.

The crowd hushes significantly.

Horzte turns slowly. He nods when he notices Remonstrance sitting with her, but he nearly drops his mug when he spots Tufin at the same table.

After a pause, he asks Vendetta carefully, "Can I be assured that your intentions are peaceable, within this house?"

"Within this house, yes," she replies.

"And yours?" Horzte nervously asks Tufin.

<Tufin>

There is a confused look on his face, at least the parts you can see through the air and beard. "Why ever would my intentions be anything else?" The people here were certainly acting strangely. Something that probably could stand his attention ... but later.

Well perhaps he should stretch his legs a bit anyway. He drains his mug and stands. "Pleased to meet you all, but I feel the need to be out and about. Ought to go check on my next match too now that lunch seems to be on. Don't want to keep Agnar waiting!" he finishes with a wink. "Hope to see you around later."

He heads back out to the front desk to see if they have a current schedule there.

"Agnar?" asks Horzte, as Tufin heads down the hallway to the other public room.

"You know," replies somebody, "That lunatic who can't stand metal."

"Hey, nail him one for me!" shouts a metal-clad Kobold.

The other room (officially called "Poolside") is at least as crowded as the Short Bar, and most of the people here are taller than Tufin.

The young dwarf is working behind the bar, and a copy of the schedule is available for inspection, right next to the registration ledgers.

Tufin's next scheduled bout is with Agnar, set for first thing tomorrow morning. [That's the last arrangement you guys made with Brandee, before heading to the Short Bar.]

Following Lysandra is no problem for the trio.

What they do with their food is up to them -- perhaps they stuff it into a pouch, which results in something perfectly disgusting when Nivek's and Mistletoe's fried food cools down and congeals. They can probably manage the whole walk to Penshah's and to the table without spilling a whole lot.

As they enter Penshah's, Agnar might notice that Tufin's at the bar, looking at a piece of paper. Then Agnar's hustled on, to a table at the far side of the room.

As a person experienced in the ways of metal, Agnar will see that Holli's armor is unusual in the extreme. It's full-body armor that looks cast, rather than hammered. The joints at the elbows, knees and other places move very smoothly, though it gives her an ant-like appearance. She's not wearing the helmet or gloves at the moment.

Also, if the armor is any indication, she's very broad-shouldered for a half-elf.

At the window table in the Poolside Room at Penshah's are Holli, Phineas, Mr. Glenxo, Jenredykk and Perry.

Holli's the buff half-elf in the odd armor. Phineas is the knobby, mangy-kilted human who Mistletoe defeated a few minutes ago. He's now also wearing spectacles, (but I think Mistletoe may have already known about them from the dents on the sides of his nose.) Mr. Glenxo is a rich-looking dwarf wearing symbols of Moradin, though the short sword at his side implies he's not a cleric.

When Mistletoe and Nivek return with Lysandra, Holli says, "There you are! Sorry about last night -- I'll try to explain later."

If/when Agnar arrives, Phineas greets him with, "So there you are. I'd wondered where you went. You didn't get to see me get stomped by this little lady, here." He nods to Mistletoe.

If/when Matthias and Eledhan return (and after various people get slapped by Matthias' loose sword), everybody who saw them before can see that Matthias has solidified a bit, something native Zammers recognize as going up in levels. Matthias has skipped a couple.

[So, any of you guys who haven't met any other of you guys, it's time for some more introductions.]

Once all have arrived who are going to arrive, Holli says, "Okay, we're looking for Mr. Glenxo's wife and little daughter. Here's where we think they may be going or were taken."

"Any questions before we go?"

For those who notice Perry for the first time, he is dressed in bright colors faded with age and muted by dirt and stains. His striped pants and clashing leather jerkin would clearly be painful to view in this combination if they were as bright today as they were when they were new.

Much of the gnome's face is hidden by a large brimmed hat with bright, red, fuzzy balls dangling off the end. The hat is nearly as wide as Perry is tall, and was clearly meant to be worn by a human - perhaps in a circus. Perry has modified the hat with 2 eye holes above the brim so he can see out of it while it rests on his pudgy nose. The hat is made of straw and has weathered badly. The brim looks especially worn as if it serves mostly as a bumper. Overall it has several dents and tears.

The entire outfit gives the gnome an air of gaudy mystery.

In Penshah's at the windowside table, Holli has been getting ready to go after Mr. Glenxo's missing wife and daughter. (Mr. Glenxo is that extremely troubled-but-rich-looking, elderly dwarf wearing various hunks of gold and silver that identify him as ranking highly the Church of Moradin. He's also wearing a sword, so he's not a cleric.)

Eledhan and Matthias have returned from the Temple of Eris, where Matthias had a conveniently speedy revelation from the goddess. Glenxo seems even more upset when he sees Matthias.

Jenredykk asks Glenxo, "What's the problem with him being a cleric?"

"It's who he's a cleric for," mutters the distraught father. "Chaotic with a capital 'K', as they say ..."

Nivek and Mistletoe have also been fetched by Lysandra, with Agnar tagging along.

"Nivek, good to see you," says Holli. "This is Mr. Glenxo, and his daughter and wife have just gone missing. I was hoping you might help track them. I think they've gone into the sewers and tunnels below the town."

Eledhan asks, "Yes, my dear, I have a question which I feel might be shared by several of our group. Will there be monsters, and does anyone know a good life-insurance broker?"

Holli says, "Monsters, sure, if you don't scare them away with that insurance broker talk."

Perry asks Holli, "Um, I wasn't paying attention when the reward money was discussed, how much did you say it was?"

Holli rolls her eyes and goes back to showing Nivek the map.

Phineas nudges the gnome and says. "Look at his outfit. I may be nearly naked now, but I know expensive jewelry when I see it. PLUS, he seems to be a high mucky-muck in a church that specializes in gold."

Agnar has hung back a little, to exchange a few comments with Tufin, who's been at the bar to look at the Tournament schedule of matches. Then Agnar heads for the table, probably with Tufin behind him.

[OOC: At this point, we've almost gotten to a very convenient point for any GM: all the players in the same place at the same time. It would make things so easy to handle! Unfortunately, Mr. Glenxo refuses to cooperate.]

The harried-looking dwarf looks up from the table and spots Tufin heading his way.

"Oh, not now!" he mutters, then turns back to the table.

"Holli, you guys better get going. I have even more trouble coming."

"Huh?" Holli huhs.

"Church business. "

That's enough for Holli. She's up and trying to herd the party toward the door to the hallway and downstairs, leaving Glenxo to stand and face Tufin across several feet of public room floor.

The old dwarf clears his throat and addresses Tufin in a voice that carries through the room.

"All right, all right. So you've got around to me. What is it you WANT?"

<<Mistletoe>>

The druid and her hawk will go with Holli and Nivek. She offers the hawk for scouting if need be, he'd rather do that than be stuck in the stuffy tavern hooded and jessed, any time. She's hoping that this won't take too long - her muscles are already starting to ache from fighting earlier and that hot bath is again a fond dream.

> "Yeah, you never really told us what was going on," the goblin > demands from Holli. "So, what happened down there ?"

Holli points with a thumb over her shoulder at the agitated Mr. Glenxo.

"That fellow is a town elder and high poobah in his temple. His wife and daughter headed toward the ladies' room downstairs, but now they're gone. Also downstairs, a secret door has been left open that few people should know about, though I happen to.

"So we're guessing they were either abducted or some other foul play has happened."

"You stay away from my family!" whines Glenxo. (He's not very good at it -- perhaps lack of practice.)

"In fact ... How do I know you're not behind this, some how? First you consort with this anti-metal lunatic, then you're rubbing elbows with scum from Vergaantz!"

A few in the crowd "Ooooh!" at that. Some instances of "Hey, he's right!" can be heard.

[Agnar]

Agnar nods. Looks like it's a mystery as to why Glexno's family disappeared. Well, not to much of a mystery. Agnar noted all the metal Glexno wore. Clearly, he was a man steeped in sin. Little wonder he couldn't keep a family together....

And then Agnar overheard Glexno call him a lunatic. Well, Agnar would show him who the lunatic was....

"Excuse me," said the mad-eyed dwarf as he shouldered his way back into the tavern... and into the other leg of this thread....

Agnar barreled back into the tavern.

"Anti-metal lunatic?! What gall you have, you cuckolded gilded canary! No wonder your wife and daughter left you, you raper of the pristine mother earth! You and your avarice and your pride and your fancy trappings and your empty morality. You and your vanity and your gold and silver swashbuckles and your tin weapons and your burnished bronze and your iron fastens..."

Agnar seems perfectly willing to spew inarticulate insults as long as anybody will let him.

<<Do hawks work underground?>>

I doubt it. Don't they fly mostly by gliding on air currents? Dungeon halls tend to be rather stale. If I remember correctly, flapping wings is for going up, not forward.

The tall cleric tilts his head slightly at the dwarf's words, frowning as he does so.

"You know, that really is quite rude. I mean first you ask us to help you, and then you suddenly leap into a completely contradictary position. And I'm meant to be the chaotic one! Honestly. Some people."

[Ashefelor is smart enough to hang around outdoors and avoid problems like nasty kids with slings and such. And Mistletoe's developed enough of a connection that she can summon the hawk from wherever she pops up from underground. So she has the option of playing it that way, if she chooses.]

Catching bits and pieces of conversations as she rejoins up after loosing Ashfelor, the half elf makes an odd face. Almost as if she's had something tart, it's really a cross between stifled laughter and a grimace. If she can get near to Nivek, she'll nudge him in the ribs and remark, "Woohee, and I thought our previous companions were a bit strange!" Tufin raises his eyebrows at the fellow's outburst. "Which 'family' would that be Sir?" His demeanor begins to change, "Exactly what are you trying to accuse me of?" ... as he realizes what the dwarf is implying, "But now you =have= piqued my interest." His eyes narrow and his jaw tighten, "Perhaps you had better tell me =exactly= what it is that is going on around here ... and start now please." It was not a request.

He halts his demands when Agnar jumps into the discussion. He uses the time to take a deep breath and regain some composure. "Now Agnar, this is not your world ... things are a bit different here. Now in I do believe that this fellow needs to seriously unburden his soul", he scowls at Glenxo obviously awaiting an appology to Agnar and a detailed explaination of exactly what is going on.

He gets ahead of everybody.

At the bottom of the stairs, there's a well-lit hallway with six doors. One's labelled "Males," another's labelled "Females." Between these two is a door with "Baths" on the door. The woman who brought Glenxo over to Holli a few minutes ago is standing here, holding the door open.

Beyond her, and beyond the tubs, there's a hole in the wall opening on darkness. (Secret doors aren't so well hidden when they're open.)

It's the poolside room of Penshah's Oasis Resort -- the one designed for human-sized customers. And there are a lot of these to witness the three-way argument that's developing.

Mr. Glenxo starts the festivities by demanding to know what Tufin wants of him. In his tirade, he called Agnar a lunatic. Agnar, naturally, takes umbrage to that.

Tufin says "But now you =have= piqued my interest." His eyes narrow and his jaw tighten, "Perhaps you had better tell me =exactly= what it is that is going on around here ... and start now please."

Glenxo sputters, "Me? Tell you? Wh-wh-"

Agnar is more eloquent as he continues his tirade against the local dwarf. "... You and your vanity and your gold and silver swashbuckles and your tin weapons and your burnished bronze and your iron fastens..."

Tufin turns to Agnar and says, "Now Agnar, this is not your world ... things are a bit different here. Now in I do believe that this fellow needs to seriously unburden his soul"

Glenxo gapes openemouthedly at that one, but only a high squeaking sound comes forth.

Agnar has no such problem. "My world or not, when someone calls me a lunatic, I think I have a right to give him a piece of my mind. Especially a supercilious superficial leaden-headed obnoxious twit and general poor excuse for our species as this one is."

Glenxo finally gets control of his tongue and addresses Tufin rather loudly. "My soul?? MY soul?? Am I the one about to sell out his deity to strangers for Moradin-knows-what promise of church position? Am I the one out spreading gossip about lawful and just people I haven't even met? Am I the one who traipses into town without even paying a call on my local brethren in faith?"

He ignores Agnar for the moment. His interest in Glenxo suddenly very intense. "Lets get a few things straight." He steps a bit closer and holds up his open hand so that Glenxo can get a good look at it. After a moment he his other hand reaches up and pulls down a finger, "First, I had been on a personal pilgrimage, and so was under no obligation to 'report' to anyone, least of all you."

He leans in a bit closer and pulls down a second finger, "Two, I have not been here long enough to spread any gossip, so be sure of your facts before you go about accusing.".
