Unguent sleeps in a bier of holly branches in a secluded grove in the heart of Sleeper's Valley in Nathaniel's Other Forest. He is the oldest living motile sentient being on Zam.
Unguent's version of the deathmagic was a slight tapping of this process worldwide, until the Fall of Shazam showed him his folly in that. (See Unguent's Thirteen Years in the timeline.) At game time, he still has a miniscule tap worldwide, with a concentrated one on the eastern part of N.O.F. He uses this for his own longevity, as well as for that of his most valuable followers.
- -1000 Unguent, later to become Unguent the Druid, born.
- -145 Unguent begins his first hibernation.
- 300 Unguent wakes and revives Nathaniel's Other Forest.
- 400 Unguent re-assumes Grand Druid position.
- 610 Unguent begins developing his version of the deathmagic.
- 700 Unguent hibernates again. Argent becomes Grand Druid.
- 2600 UNGUENT'S THIRTEEN YEARS
- Deathmagic wakes Unguent, who works nonstop for 13 years. This strikes Zam almost worse than Shazam's fall in some respects. He doesn't eat, sleep or even sit down. He stands still very rarely, developing the "hopping prayer" to avoid exploding. Among other activities, he:
- -- cultivates the Eaderoter Desert in New Tronbaum (the answer to the obvious objection: "NOW it's a forest.") Puts many druids in same, as well as a squad of elven thief-acrobats used for espionage. Purpose: to infiltrate the courts in Clampdown and Finagle, and keep an eye on Toehold.
- -- engineers fall of Pedantium from Sea Peoples to Vergaantz.
- -- organizes clerical/magical unit of twelve in Grutch, to develop and maintain several interplanar gates.
- -- also in Grutch, sets up a new house of merchants to serve Nokwood.
- -- singlehandedly garrotes the First Consul of Vergaantz, in full view of a crowd, in Clampdown's main square. Never arrested, and no charges are brought.
- -- causes the sudden disappearance of prince Spap-Oop of New Tronbaum.
- -- introduces underground photosynthetic plants to Deeperdelf.
- -- spends one month in Bokrü. Total restructuring.
- -- encourages settlement of Plukiduck by geas-ing several petty nobles to move there with their estates.
- -- introduces pirhannaroaches to Naaz-Tiiz, which winds up merely toughening up the natives.
- 2612 Several Unguentine druids confer in Foldrol to discuss the situation at hand. Unguent's (largely) unexplained activity is wearing out Eastern Zam, and seemed quite unbalanced and un-druidlike. They plot with Sea Peoples' nobles -- Princess Coral, a half-elf, is tutored and reinforced for her liaison with Unguent. The druids pray franticly to GEB to aid them by giving Unguent appropriate signs. The plan works in part -- Unguent is back in hibernation (having fixed the bug in his deathmagic) within three moons of the wedding. Offspring, born New Year's Day 986, are identical twin males -- Henute and Dakkirus.
- 2770 Forces from Vergaantz invade N.O.F. to alleviate the siege of Asyncport from the land side. This suffices, for the druids fear that Unguent might awaken, and his loyalty in the situation would be uncertain, for he has descendents on each side.
