Located where the Hayle River flows into the Kralos.
The city itself is on the north banks of the Kralos and Hayle.
The Smott complex lies between the two rivers, with the pyramid at the top of a small hill there.
City
Pedantium was founded 3000 years ago during the Near Fall by the Sea Peoples and several druids as a place to coordinate their efforts to rescue Zam. The Sea Peoples took over the administration of the town after the crisis, and it became a stop on the trade route to the northern parts of Nathaniel's Other Forest.
It fell under the administration of Vergaantz during Unguent's Thirteen Years 1000 years ago. Almost immediately, construction began on the Smott pyramid.
Originally on the western edge of town, the town has grown to almost surround it. 2000 troops are stationed here, including 7 units of Kralos Monastery graduates. Exercises and maneuvers are performed frequently about the countryside, usually simulations of druidical invasions from Nathaniel's Other Forest.
The pyrarch is Kranxit, who is 88 years old and looks it. He is gaunt and dressed like a bum, which he might as well be, as far as the townspeople are concerned. He's only evil when he remembers to be, or when deliberately insulted for long enough to get his attention. He spends much of his time at the Travellers' Rest in a half drunken state. Most residents know him on sight and call him "Grandfather Tumbledown". If directly challenged, he is likely to polymorph other the challenger into a glowing pink kobold and then command the kobold to "obey". He will then have the kobold get him some more beer.
Across the Kralos from the city itself, this is largely concealed behind a hill. A bonfire is kept on the hilltop every new moon.
The monastery trains monks of lawful evil alignment, who also serve as some of the functionaries and guards for Smott. The abbot of this place is Zam's Master of Dragons for the evil alignment, thus in addition to those of the 49 disciples who are present at any given time, there will be 2d12 lawful evil pilgrims (mostly monks) and 2d4 lawful neutral monks as visitors.
The number of visitors is tripled for the time of the Midsummer Fire. This takes place on the night of the midsummer's new moon. All the buildings of the monastery (made of wood) are burned to the ground, and the entire complex is rebuilt by the monks several hundred feet away -- all in one night. At the crack of dawn all construction stops, even if the buildings are incomplete (as happens only about once in a century), and the monastery is re-dedicated for another year. No additions to the buildings are built during the year, and repairs are performed only on new moons. The yearly relocation of the buildings serves the practical purpose of preventing most long lasting curses against them from remaining in effect for very long.
Advanced disciples include three squads of twelve monks and one leader apiece. Each of the three are at different levels of training. They train in hand-to-hand, spear, crossbow and hand axe combat. As part of their training, vicious animals and prisoners are occasionally sent against the camp at odd hours to be dispatched. (A captured party can be used for this purpose. In such an event, the party should be led to believe they are genuinely escaping their confinement.) Only one squad is sent out at a time to deal with invaders.
Upon completion of the regular training program, a squad is sent to serve in the Vergaantz Army for two years. In battle (Battlesystem rules), it may enter battle as either a regular unit or a skirmish unit (sans leader). The hand axes used are all metal, and they are purified in the monthly bonfires.
On the banks of the Hayle, this the largest temple of HEL in Zam.

Prangport serves as the non-military major southern Zam port for the Sea Peoples. It is also the headquarters for their black market trade.
Prangport also serves as a Sea Peoples' lookout on the city of Bokrü.
Fortress
This is a marble, open air affair, much like the other Zeus temples you've seen. Very nice marble columns hold up a roof of green, transluscent tile.
During the day, the streets are crowded with sweaty people, many with sacks over their shoulders or pushing a cart.
Except for the two major avenues serving carriage traffic, the byways of this area are free of horses. There are taxi stands and horse-minding stations along the avenues, for those who need to conduct business here.
This is a tavern three blocks away from the main docks.
