K'fehrd's Quarters

Sczaaczuhn

This inn and tavern devotes half the number of its rooms to guests of normal size or larger. It has two common rooms - one for all races, and one for dwarves only. Many of the city garrison and others on the municipal payroll patronize the dwarven commons, and if one spends an evening in there, one can learn just about anything about the city that is publicly known. The dwarves there will be eager to help a stranger of their own kind, since they feel that their town relies to heavily on tall folks already. If a dwarf needs to find any sort of work, this is the place to find help.

Karnak

Population
Humans 8000
Half-Elves 2000
Elves 500
Other (Zam) 200
Offworlders 50
Total 10750

Ruled by The Council of However Many There Happen to Be These Days, composed of a member from each alignment (LG,NG,CG,LN,N (druids crosstraining), CN,LE) and each department of the Institute. The main task of civil government is protecting the city from the Unguentines and Vergaantzers to the north.

In order to maintain some control over the magic rampant in the city, the position of Municipal Magic Monitor was created. This office is held at game time by Cynthia of Asyncport (MU lvl 12, al LN, female human). She and her apprentices run the spells which monitor spell casting throughout Karnak, except specific Houses which have cloaking spells (as long as the magic stays within the cloaking). If a spell cast is not destructive, usually no action is taken, except to record the occurrence. A main function of the office is to answer queries into who cast which and what, when. This allows investigations into misconduct, especially mischief by children. Also, the M.M.M. must minimize magical mayhem and pollution resulting in the mixture of dweamors.

The defense and some of the law enforcement of the city are managed by Karnak Defense Solutions Inc.

Besides the usual network of roads, the city is linked with roads and bridges that are for military use only.

Knights of the Towers

Covert Society

Normally seen as two rival order of do-gooders, these are actually agents of Molokai. Many of the members are creatures who assume human form. They do this, besides for the obvious reasons, whenever they are doing anything that looks heroic. They like to fake crime scenes, complete with perpetrator killed trying to escape. Other members include anti-paladins with special camoflage spells, half-Drow and certain mercenaries (who do not always know the truth about their mission.) Full members commune once a day, if possible, and thus there is a bit of a chance running into them in an unwakeable sleep with a crackling glow about their forms. Sometimes members recruit parties of adventurers under false pretenses. Major centers at Gagwytaspun, South Asyncport and Borkru (Grey); Frenkenford, Deeperdelf and The Bonkers(Bright).

Recruitment Possibilities
Non-chaotic or non-evil player characters are never told the real purpose of the Knights. Any "recruitment" taking place will depend on the situation.
Recruitment Techniques
Differing by situation. Within Molokai, death is the most common recruitment method (See Deathmagic. Note to DM: if a whole party becomes undead, try playing it out for a while.) A favorite method of duping characters into helping is to fake a critical wound (all offers of cure will be refused with statements like "It is my time to go.") and then to tell the PC that completion of the task at hand will allow the Knight's soul to rest. Then the Knight will feign death by any means handy.
Recruiting Image
Things are not what they seem.
Opportunities & Benefits
This is the place to be, if you're chaotic evil, but no PC has the opportunity to rise through the ranks to supervise more than two hundred beings.
Possible Missions
Ideally, the mission will seem innocent but will result in some major mischief.

One tactic that is about to become popular is to have a character deliver a magic item to a local ruler or military commander.

This item will actually have 2 totally different sorts of magic. The dweamor (#1) evident on the item will enable the bearer to do something remarkable but not very useful to a fighter. (For instance: a Staff of Document Duplication, or the Scepter of Personnel Management.) This dweamor also prevents a deeper and stronger magic (#2) from working. Spell #2 takes over when spell #1 stops working, which will happen when the intended victim holds the object, or when #1 is dispelled. Spell #2 instantly polymorphs anyone who touches the item or causes the item to move into one of the following (roll 2d6 on each touch):

It is likely that the bearers of the gift will be remembered by survivors of the presentation.

Some other possible objectives: Set a forest fire in any major wooded area. Kill New Tronbaum's "tyrant". Kill all the women in a town. Overturn good alignment magical protection.

Kobold Liberation Army, Inc.

A guerrilla army of kobolds operating from bases in N.O.F., Vergaantz, Toehold and New Tronbaum.
